Study theme: Study how salt perturbation shifts anammox community in the wastewater treatment facilities.
This study is one of the researches developed by Microbial Function and Technology laboratory. It aims to answer how salinity changes can influence the optimal activity by the population of anammox bacteria and coworking microorganisms. To achieve this goal, I designed two UASB anammox reactors with different salinity adding steps. My research focused on salinity changing instead of salt effects. The output of this study can enhance our insight to anammox ecosystem stability in saline wastewater.

邵勇先
(Yung-Hsien Shao)
Ph.D. candidate
Yung-Hsien specialized in biological wastewater treatment of nitrogen pollution. He is interested in applying the meta-omics approach to explore the microbial ecology and functionality of the man-made systems. A better understanding of microbial ecology is necessary for improving the operation and management of the in-services wastewater treatment process.

Yu-Chuan Lai
Graduate student
Master Thesis: Simultaneous Biodegradation of Trichloroethylene and Toluene under Microaerobic Conditions
Hi guy, my name is Yu-chuan, Lai. I am a master student here. My research topic is relative to contaminated soil and groundwater treatment, especially the bioremediation of TCE. I focus on the bioaugmentation and bioremediation for multiple solvent pollutants. The primary purpose of this research is to develop microbial consortium, which was inoculated soil from local contaminated site, for treating TCE-contaminated site in Taiwan.
Research interest:
1. TCE dechlorination
2. Bioaugmetation
3. Multiple solvent degradation
